The Kilgore College Theatre Department will perform “The Exonerated” by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen beginning Feb. 26 in Van Cliburn Auditorium on the
Kilgore campus.
The play is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Feb. 26 through March 1, with a matinee performance 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 3. There is no Saturday performance. The play is a documentary play that tells the stories of six individuals who were tried and convicted of rape and/or murder. They all spent time on death row – from two to 22 years. They each had their convictions reversed and were freed.
Every word of the play was taken from interviews with these individuals or directly from court documents. Since the time of the interviews, in the summer of 2000, there have been more than 200 people released from death row on wrongful convictions in the United States.
General admission tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for students and $4 for KC students with a student ID.
The play contains adult themes and adult language. Barber suggests that no students under the age of 14 should attend. Late arrivals and children under the age of six will not be admitted. The box office will open one hour prior to each performance.
For reservations, call Barber at 903-983-8126, or e-mail: kbarber@kilgore.edu.
Reserved tickets may be picked up at the Will Call table beginning one hour before curtain on the day of the performance.
