The Kilgore College choirs will present a special concert this month in Longview featuring the performance of “A German Requiem,” opus number 45, by Johannes Brahms.

The annual KC Masterworks Concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview, located at 906 Padon Street. The concert will feature the KC Masterworks Chorus – comprised of the KC Chorale and the East Texas Community Chorus – accompanied by an orchestra.

“A German Requiem,” composed between 1865 and 1868, features seven movements, written originally in the German language.

”The work will be sung in English in order to best communicate the composer’s spoken purpose to console the living after the death of a loved one,” said Dr. Jim Taylor, conductor. “This masterpiece is full of breathtaking beauty, heartbreaking sorrow and majestic power – as full of pathos today as it was in the year of its creation.”

Featured performers will include Alyssa Marshall, soprano; and Dr. Eric Thomas, baritone.

The concert is a part of the Trinity Episcopal Church Concert Series, and is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Taylor at (903) 983-8122 or jtaylor@kilgore.edu.
